A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays offer a plethora of activities much better than checking the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing patience techniques to not arguing with family members. It is wished you were able to do all these things and more. That said, the world of entertainment doesn't go on vacation, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting announcements surfaced over the holidays, and if you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising revelation, the widely-criticized controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt further production. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—so far away they could have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which might be a positive development. But, the promotional image for the new episodes is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series proved it still retained the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now everyone is ecstatic about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for some time, and season 6 was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
