Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
