Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
âI feel secure, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from above,â Slot remarked.
âIt would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.â
He noted, âI accept my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.â
Conversations with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
âWe talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they back me.â
He further stated, âThrough standard discussions I feel the trust. But I havenât spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.â
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
The manager highlighted known weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
âI donât have the solutions. Truthfully, I donât. Iâm saying that to all,â the midfielder remarked.
âItâs just not good enough. I donât even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. Iâm at the point currently where I just donât have the phrases.â
He continued, âIt's tough because Iâm playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and Iâve seen this club for years.â
âIn recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.â
Jones finished, âBut we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to battle.â
âOur aim is to get this team back to the top, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.â
âBut right now, things are bad and it must improve.â
