Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Legal Issues
The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
