Dominant Sabalenka Secures Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Honors.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a 63-12 match record, and collected a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, received the award after taking a extended hiatus after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to world number 18.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after winning their second Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
