NBA game action

Miami recorded eighty-six first-half scores against the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat secured a decisive 146 to 114 win against the Grizzlies in their first NBA match since guard Terry Rozier was detained for alleged unlawful gambling.

Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey Billups was also arrested in connection with a sweeping FBI investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the claims.

However, the Miami team were not distracted as they recorded 86 opening half scores to lead Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year history.

Bam Adebayo led the way with twenty-four points and later stated Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We stand behind him. Complete backing," Adebayo said. "We are with him all the way. That's our brother ultimately."

Miami head coach Erik Spoelstra added: "Rozier is somebody who is important to everyone. He has made a real positive impact on our team.

"Our thoughts are with him and support for him as he faces the situation."

Portland also won their first game after the detentions, with Brazil-born Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Billups' absence and guiding the team to a convincing 139-119 win over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his family but we have a job to do."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' over Recent Events

Speaking about the arrests for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated he was "deeply disturbed" by the incidents of the recent days.

"There's nothing more important to the league and supporters than the integrity of the game," he informed a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

Silver also said an NBA investigation into the player's conduct in March 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a game he played for the Charlotte Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"We were informed by the regulators and the gambling firms," he added.

"We then looked into that situation and were very transparent about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA can't do.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they revealed recently was an indictment.

"And 30 months later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in fairness to Rozier.

"Clearly, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance here between protecting people's rights and conducting an inquiry."
