Homages Pour In for Rob and Michele Reiner as Medical Examiner's Findings Are Sealed.
More than two weeks subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's iconic movie *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt prepared to share openly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has passed that I can now articulate my loss into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his introductory moment with Reiner left him smitten. "Once we started spending more time together I understood this was someone I desired in my life."
The actor posted never-before-seen clips from the movie, commenting that he doesn't recollect "any day without joy".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Values that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes continued.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a incredible duo would be an oversimplification. My heart still aches every time I recall you." He concluded with a phrase from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked wonderfully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese noted.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Restricted
This week, a Los Angeles judge agreed to prevent the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, after an appeal from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A judicial mandate placed a restriction on the files to restrict the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" connected to the ongoing investigation.
The coroner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of foul play, with a record noting the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Fallout and Commentary
After the tragedy, public individuals shared varying responses.
Ex-President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, offering provocative claims that were widely condemned by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the critics last week. Talking on his show, Rogan labeled the statements as "shocking" and implied they showed a worrisome absence of compassion.
Rogan ended by suggesting that an associate should have acted when the choice to weigh in on the death was made.
