Paceman Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Problems.

'Serious blow' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer further complicated the injury concerns plaguing England upon exiting the ground during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left leg after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp indicated Atkinson felt some "soreness" and required time off the field in order to be assessed "in the coming hours".

The final Test of the tour in Sydney starts on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Atkinson improved at the MCG, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs while batting among just a trio of England players who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

Unfortunately, at the end of that over, he delivered a slower ball to the batsman and immediately felt his left hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test after being left out of the third.
